An explanation of the Speed Map points explained in the video
10 speed map points = 1 length
Turning your forecast of the horse's position into speed map points:
= 100 minus (10 x lengths back from the lead)
Often, you will assess a potential range for the horse, e.g. 1 to 2 lengths or 3 to 4 lengths. In these cases, you can pick a value that sits somewhere in between.
Examples:
- You expect a horse to be 3 to 4 lengths back from the lead. You choose 3.5 lengths. Speed map points = 100 - (3.5 x 10) = 100 - 35 = 65
- You expect a horse to 2 lengths back from the lead. Speed map points = 100 - (2 x 10) = 100 - 20 = 80
- You expect a horse to 7 lengths back from the lead. Speed map points = 100 - (7 x 10) = 100 - 70 = 30
